Gain vs. Loss…

Matthew 16-26

“He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep, to gain that which he cannot lose.”

Those words were uttered by a famous Christian missionary of the 20th century named Jim Elliott.  The words are famous not just because they flow over the tongue well, but because of the example that was shown by the very man that spoke them.  Jim Elliott was trying to reach the  Huaorani people of Ecuador and was killed in the process by the very people he sought to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with.  He was a martyr for the faith. Why?  Why would someone give up something so valuable to share a message of hope?

It is because of people like Jim not only know about Jesus, but they know Jesus Christ personally.  This is the most important thing we can know about God…that we can actually KNOW GOD.  He has made Himself known to us and that is the most valuable precious gift we could ever have.

Knowing Him and then in turn, making Him Known to others is the greatest thing we could ever receive as a gift and give as a gift.  That is why we must #FollowJesus.  He is the ONE who has …

  • The Kingdom Unshakable – Matthew 28:18-20, Hebrews 12:28-29

  • The Power of Salvation – Romans 1:16-17, 1 Corinthians 1:18, 30-31

  • The Glorious Name – Isaiah 26:8, John 1:1, Philippians 2:5-11, Revelations 19:11-16

So yes, this world has nothing that is comparable to knowing Him & living for Him (Philippians 3:7-14).  There may seem to be a lot of loss for those that choose to #FollowJesus.  But in Him is salvation from sins and adoption in His name (John 1:12-13, John 3:16, Romans 10:10-17).  There is nothing worth more than Him.

So let those who carry the name of Jesus do so not in vain, but in remembrance of His Kingdom, His Power, & His Glory…forever and ever, Amen.

By His Grace.  Through His Gospel.  For His Glory.
