Needing Heroes…

Needing Heroes...

I received this photo through my friend, Jared Wallin. It is called “You’ll Be Safe Here.” It is a great concept artwork piece that shares many comic, book, TV, and film heroes and heroines.

During the summer time, there are always blockbuster films released and many of them are based on these heroic characters. Because I am a self proclaimed (and proud) NERD… I have enjoyed and will continue to enjoy these cinematic treasures (unless they do a bad job of making the characters… i.e. Green Lantern, Daredevil, etc.)

The world loves epic tales and needs a hero. John Eldredge, in his book, “EPIC,” presents the case that all these general epic tales point to the greatest epic and hero of all… JESUS CHRIST

Yes…you know where this is going… if you know me or this blog. The greatest epic of the world is the ideal of perfection that is fallen and now redeemed only by the HERO of HEROES…Jesus Christ.

all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God… –Romans 3:23 [NASB]

God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us… -Romans 5:8 [NASB]

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord... -Romans 6:23 [NASB]

He raised from the dead, that is Jesus, who rescues us from the wrath to come… -1 Thessalonians 1:10 [NASB]

if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.

For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed.”

For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him; for “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

– Romans 10: 9-13 [NASB]I am so thankful for the KING of KINGS, the LORD of LORDS, the HERO of HEROES! Because Jesus is the Hero, my hero, and the hero made available to you… I can truly be safe. It is only by His provision of grace and His provision alone that I can be saved. This is made possible because He willingly chose the cross so that we could willingly choose Him. He is the Hero who Rescues…

He rescued me, because He delighted in me. -Psalm 18:19b

And He who has delighted in His children…has called us to into His Heroic Alliance. We can know Him and make Him known… (Matthew 28:18-20 / Acts 1:8 / John 1:12)

By His Grace. Through His Gospel. For His Glory.
