Kyrie Eleison! Christe Eleison!…

Kyrie Eleison!  Christe Eleison!

Lord Have Mercy!  Christ Have Mercy!  This cry of our hearts may be all too familiar.  But check out Isaiah 55 below and then we’ll get to some thoughts.

6 Seek the Lord while He may be found;keep-calm-and-kyrie-eleison
Call upon Him while He is near.
7 Let the wicked forsake his way
And the unrighteous man his thoughts;
And let him return to the Lord,
And He will have compassion on him,
And to our God,
For He will abundantly pardon.
8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord.
9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways
And My thoughts than your thoughts.
10 For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven,
And do not return there without watering the earth,
 And making it bear and sprout,
And furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater;
11 So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth;
It will not return to Me empty,
Without accomplishing what I desire,
And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.”
– Isaiah 55: 6 – 11 [NASB]

So I have been reading A.W. Tozer’s Knowledge of the Holy and it is such a great read on the eternal attributes of God.  A chapter a day is really easy to accomplish in a short period of time which is good because it is almost like trying to drink from a fire hose.  Today was on the Mercy of God.  I am wanting to write just one paragraph from today because of was like opening a bottle of AwesomeSauce on revelation of His mercy.

I want to do this because I find myself even limiting the idea of the Mercy of God…

“If we could remember that the divine mercy is not a temporary mood but an attribute of God’s eternal being, we would no longer fear that it will someday cease to be.  Mercy never began to be, but from eternity was; so it will never cease to be.  It will never be more since it is itself infinite; and it will never be less because the infinite cannot suffer diminution.  Nothing that has occurred or will occur in heaven or earth or hell can change the tender mercies of our God.  Forever His mercy stands, a boundless, overwhelming immensity of divine pity and compassion.  As judgement is God’s justice confronting moral inequity, so mercy is the goodness of God confronting human suffering and guilt.”

“Holy Father, Thy wisdom excites our admiration, Thy power fills us with fear, Thy omnipresence turns every spot of earth into holy ground; but how shall we thank Thee enough for Thy mercy which comes down to the lowest part of our need to give us beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, and for the spirit of heaviness a garment of praise?”

-A.W. Tozer –The Knowledge of the Holy

Our God is never limited by us in any scope of the meaning.  There is no box big enough to contain Him or mind intellectual enough to have all of Him figured out.  There is no way for us to manipulate or control Him…yet where we fail, He meets us with His justice, mercy, and grace.  He has not left us without the hope of Himself.

As we cry Kyrie Eleison…He indeed has mercy which overflows and overwhelms meeting the sinner in need…with salvation indeed.
