Incommunicado

So recently I seem to have fried my smartphone.  I call it the day the smartphone went stupid.  I now have my replacement (thank you for warranties) and i seem to have gotten over the withdrawals that I had faced… (I’m not an addict, but I cannot quit at anytime I want.).  Over the weekend that it was missing in my life I faced what it was like to be semi-incommunicado.  No phone, no text, no 3G web-surfing.  Scary stuff right?  It was a strange time.  Some people were wondering what was up with me not answering a phone that didn’t work (although many did not know that.).

I really hated not being talked to, not being listened too, not able to communicate what I wanted to say.  (Even though at this point I make the disclaimer that not everything I say is important but there are many things I say that are very important…weight of material may vary).

Then it hit me like a holy 2×4 (pronounced – two by four as in wood).  Even though what I say isn’t very weighty… every word that proceeds from the mouth of God is (Deut 8:3 / Matthew 4:4).  Even the 3 word sentence “I love you” is huge when it comes from Jesus Christ.  One of the things that blow my mind about God is that He is never incommunicado…we are.  (Psalm 46:1).  The scripture tells us that God is not far from us but near us.  For those that are disciples of Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit dwells even in us (Romans 8:11).

The other area that struck my heart was that we have God who is all-powerful, all knowing and He loves us… yet I find myself taking for granted the relationship I have with Him and I fail to communicate with Him.  The great part is that God desires us to come to Him and to communicate everything from the things we consider trivial to the deepest core of ourselves. (Isaiah 1:18; Jeremiah 33:3; Matthew 7:7; etc.). He desires our communication with Him so much that He sends Himself to provide the ability to go deep inside of us (Romans 8:26-27).

Why do I find myself going incommunicado with God?  It is because there are days I just can’t comprehend the immensity of His love for me, for others, for life.  His holy nature is so awesome and yet His love and grace desire all of us (all of His creation).

My fix on becoming mobile again was a replacement phone.  God’s fix to the relationship problem first was Himself in Jesus Christ.

God has created you and me and everyone for a relationship with Him.  That’s right… I said a relationship with the Creator of all things. (This is not some ritualistic religion).

Our problem is our SIN.  My problem is my SIN.  Your problem is your SIN.  SIN is everything that goes against the holy nature of God.  The bad things we know we shouldn’t do but do them and the good things we know we should do but don’t (James 4:17).  And here is some truth that will set you free.

Sins cannot be removed by good deeds.  People and religions have tried it for centuries.  Most religions still do.  There is no way to earn the removal of SIN by trying to be good enough or by using a spiritual balance scale.  No amount of money given, no amount of charity done, no amount of religious duty can get you out of the dootie!  (Yes. I said the dootie)  But I said this was the part that will set you free.

God sent Himself as Jesus Christ to set us free by paying the price for my SIN, for your SIN, for the SIN of the world.  He came to live perfectly (no one had or has ever done that but Jesus).  And then He took the punishment of the cross and died.  (Romans 5:8; 6:23) But the grave could not keep Him (1 Corinthians 15:3-8) because His offer was not death, but life and in Him there was no lie, only truth.  This is what brings us communication, this is what sets us free…the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The great news is that everyone who trusts in Him alone has eternal life (Romans 10:9-13).  It is a personal decision for you to make.  It was a personal decision for me to make. It is the choice of a lifetime.  But I found and know this to be true, that only in Jesus Christ gift of Himself as God am I able to come near to Him (Hebrews 4:14-16).  I am no longer incommunicado.

Jesus offers life that eternal to you as well.  This means life forever with Jesus Christ, God Himself.  This life will not always be easy.  There will be times you and I will make mistakes. (Believe me, it happens.)  Because of these times, we will go into times that we choose to be incommunicado (directly or indirectly), but because of what Jesus has done for us, we have access.

He loves you…and He desires to show you more than you could even day to dream.  Seek Him and begin communication with God.

“Call to Me & I will answer you,” declares the LORD, “and will show you great and unsearchable things you did not know.” -Jeremiah 33:3
